The serum: before or after the cream? We tell you everything.

Cream may have become part of your beauty routine, but you may still find it hard to understand the purpose of the other products in your routine and the order in which they should be used, especially the serum. And yet, the serum is one of the basics of the beauty routine, along with the day cream. So serum, before or after cream? We explain the difference between the two and how to use them together. 

Visit serum is the first skincare product we apply to our skin, targeting a very specific need. Thanks to its high concentration of active ingredients, it targets a specific problem. Used in smaller quantities, it complements the action of the cream. We therefore apply it before applying our day cream or night.

It differs from a cream in that it has a very fine, lighter texture, which the skin absorbs very quickly, preparing it to receive subsequent treatments. Cream, on the other hand, is a balanced mixture of water and oil (also known as an emulsion) that provides the skin with all the comfort it needs on a daily basis, and helps protect it from external aggressors.

All you need to do is listen to your skin and choose your serum according to your needs. For example, you can start with a moisturizing serum and progress to anti-aging serums over time.

A serum for every skin!

All NUXE serums have been designed and developed for all skin types and complexions, so you can use any of our serums in your routine, whatever your skin tone. 

One is not a substitute for the other, as their action is complementary, so combine the two in your daily beauty routine, applying the serum under the cream: preferably morning and evening for enhanced action and results.

In terms of dosage, since the serum has a more fluid texture that spreads more easily, the equivalent of a coffee bean will suffice, while for the cream, with its creamier texture, a dab of cream will suffice.

Like the day cream, the serum is applied to cleansed, dry skin all over the face. You can use it after preparing your skin with a toner or essence, for example, but avoid the eye contour area, for which there are specific care products to meet the needs of this fragile zone.

It's not compulsory to apply the same serum morning and night, although it is of course possible, and you can, for example, choose to apply a moisturizing serum in the morning to provide your skin with a good dose of hydration, or an antioxidant serum to protect it from daily aggressions.
