When and where? Daily, weekly and monthly skincare routines

Most of us spend our lives short on time, which can make taking proper care of our skin feel like an overwhelming task. How are we expected to find the time to cleanse, tone and moisturise alongside exfoliating and applying face masks? But what if we told you that even for a perfect skincare routine, not every step needs to be completed on a daily basis. To make things an ounce more manageable, we’ve put together a simple guide on the steps you need to complete and when whether it’s daily, weekly or monthly. Approach this as your skincare schedule, just like you would workouts, socialising and appointments - and voilà, skincare just got a whole lot easier.

What to do every day…

#1 Cleanse and tone

Cleansing twice daily will always be a prerequisite due to the amount of grime and dirt that accumulates on our skin. Without removing these impurities every single day, we risk breakouts in the short term and early-ageing in the long term, as a result of the DNA-altering free radicals which settle on the skin. A double cleanse is also essential in the evening in particular, try our Micellar Cleansing Water or Cleansing Milk with Rose Petals to remove surface level makeup before a deeper cleanse with our Micellar Cleansing Oil or Cleansing Foam depending on your skin type. If you’re using a cream cleanser, or the skin is prone to dryness ensure to follow cleanser with a toner to refresh and rebalance the skin’s pH. Our Gentle Toner with Rose Petals is perfect for drier skin types, whilst our Aquabella Beauty-Revealing Essence Lotion is tailored for combination skin.

#2 Slather on serum

Serum can be an unsung hero, but it’s absolutely essential for treating specific skin concerns whether its wrinkles and lines, dullness or dehydration. Serums are more lightweight than moisturisers and have a higher concentration of active ingredients allowing them to treat the deeper layers of skin more effectively. To inject more hydration into the skin, try the Crème Frâiche de Beauté Moisturising Serum which uses plant mills and high tech algae extract to hydrate the skin for up to 48 hours. For an anti-ageing hit, try the Merveillance Anti-Wrinkle Serum which smooths wrinkles and targets loss of tone, or for more advanced wrinkles and loss of density, try the Nuxuriance Ultra Anti-Ageing serum. Apply after cleansing before moisturiser, which will also make your moisturising products act more efficiently.

#3 Go all out on moisturiser

Moisturiser should be applied both morning and evening to keep the skin soft, supple and youthful - even if you have oily skin. Look for a moisturiser that’s tailored to your skin type; if you sit on the oily side then opt for a lighter fluid cream such as the Aquabella Beauty-Revealing Moisturising Emulsion which both hydrates dry areas whilst mattifying oil areas. For normal or dry skin, try the Crème Fraîche de Beauté moisturising creams which are formulated with plant miks to offer 48-hour hydration and an anti-pollution shield. If you have skin concerns associated with ageing, be sure to opt for a targeted anti-ageing cream such as the Merveillance Expert Anti-Wrinkle Cream or Nuxuriance Anti-Ageing Rich Cream to smooth and firm the skin.

#4 Apply eye cream

Under eye circles, puffiness and crow’s feet are some of the most tell-tell signs of fatigue and ageing but daily application of an eye cream is the secret to keeping this area bright and youthful. The skin around the eyes is super thin and delicate making it more sensitive which is why a dedicated eye cream is so essential. The Creme Prodigieuse Boost Eye Balm Gel is perfect for counteracting the effects of fatigue, using an antioxidant and jasmine flower complex to smooth the eye area and fade dark circles. If you have defined lines around the eyes then use a tailored anti-wrinkle eye cream such as the Merveillance Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream which helps to plump and lift the eye area.

#5 Apply SPF

Even when it’s cloudy, the sun can cause lasting and serious damage to the skin. In fact, sun damage is the primary cause of visible skin ageing leading to the development of lines, wrinkles, slackening, brown spots and can even lead to harmful skin cancers. This means you need to be applying sun protection to the face on a daily basis, regardless of the weather. The SPF found in some foundations and tinted moisturiser don’t quite count either - while these can be great added protection, you can only count on a dedicated facial sun cream to give adequate protection. The NUXE Sun Facial Sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays, plus also features ingredients designed to protect the skin cells from photoageing. Use factor 30 or 50 depending on the time of year or your skin’s sensitivity and apply as the last step in your morning skincare routine.

What to do every week…

#1 Exfoliate

Exfoliating helps to shift dead skin cells to reveal healthy smooth skin, stimulate cell renewal and can also unclog blocked pores. But exfoliating every day can be harsh on the skin leaving it sore and irritated. Instead, exfoliate once or twice a week depending on your skin’s sensitivity. The Aquabella Micro-Exfoliating Gel is great for weekly exfoliation - it smooths away irregularities and sebum to reveal clear, soft and luminous skin. Exfoliate after cleansing by emulsifying your scrub over damp skin then work into the complexion in circular motions before rinsing.

#2 Target specific skin concerns with a face mask

Face masks are perfect for giving focused care to a specific skin concern whether used for brightening, clarifying or smoothing the skin. They work for longer and give more concentrated treatment than standard skincare products meaning they only need to be applied once or twice a week. Try our NUXE Insta-masques, which are each designed to tackle two specific skin concerns in just two minutes. Tackle oily areas and clear out the pores with our Purifying Mask, remove impurities and detoxify the skin with our Charcoal Mask, or brighten and even out the skin with the Exfoliating Mask. Apply after cleansing and exfoliating for 2 minutes before working into the skin. Each formula magically transforms into a lighter texture upon rinsing to make removal super easy.

What to do every month…

#1 Review your routine

Our skin changes all the time, with the weather, hormonal shifts and with ageing. This means our skin routine needs to be regularly adapted to treat developing skin concerns. Make a note each month to check how your skin is behaving, if it’s developing more oiliness or dryness you may need to think about the moisturiser or cleansing formulas you’re using. If you’re seeing lines and wrinkles developing, it might be time to add in or change up your anti-ageing serums and creams. Checking your skin is also important for identifying any suspicious spots or moles - if you spot something dubious then schedule an appointment with your GP or

#2 Check expiry dates and restock

Just like food and drink, skincare has an expiry date before it’s no longer effective or safe to use. Expiry dates can range from 3-24 months so take a few minutes each month to check through your skincare stash and repurchase accordingly. Bacteria can also accumulate on skincare products, so it’s also a good time to give each product a swift clean - including inside any lids and nozzles.
