We get it, if it’s been a long day - you’re tired, you’re exhausted and taking any more time on your skincare than a two-minute makeup wipe removal is just too much to bear. But a thorough nighttime skincare routine is more than worth the time and investment, trust us. Not only is it the perfect way to relax and unwind at the end of the day, it ensures we get the most out of our all-important beauty sleep.
Sleep is when our skin best repairs itself. It’s when we produce the collagen to keep the skin plump and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. We also get increased blood flow to the skin, eliminating dark circles and giving us the healthy, radiant glow we all lust after. Taking some time to nourish and prepare your skin for this vital period of the day gives your skin cells the building blocks it needs to repair and replenish most effectively. Follow our steps to give your skin the ultimate care before bed and wake up with a revitalised and replenished complexion.
#Step 1: Cleanse like you’ve never cleansed before
Cleansing is one of the most important skincare steps - not only for removing our makeup and preventing the breakout of spots, it's essential for removing the things we can’t see. Our skin is subjected to a huge amount of daily grime and pollution as a result of our environment, which without thorough cleansing will sit and sink into our skin causing dehydration, loss of radiance and early ageing.
A thorough double-cleanse is super important to ensure you’re removing both surface and deeper level makeup, dirt and grime. Start by melting away the bulk of your makeup with a gentle cleansing formula such as the Micellar Cleansing Oil with Rose Petals and sweep over the skin. Remove more stubborn eye makeup and waterproof mascara by holding your soaked-cotton pad over the eyes for 30 seconds and wipe away.
For your second cleanse, take an oil or cream based cleanser for dry skin types or a foam cleanser for oilier skin types and warm between your hands. Massage into the skin in deep, circular motions to loosen any remaining dirt and pollution and remove with a hot flannel.
#Step 2: Top up with toner
Toner helps to immediately rehydrate the skin post-cleanse and also removes any remnants of cleansing formula from the skin that might be blocking the pores. Toner is especially important for oily or combination skin types, helping to restore the skin’s pH levels and preventing breakouts and oiliness.
The NUXE Aquabella Beauty-Revealing Essence Lotion is the perfect toning formula for combination and oily skin types. It lightly hydrates and refreshes the skin, mattifies the complexion and tightness the pores preparing it perfectly for serum and moisturiser. Simply apply a small amount to a cotton pad and lightly sweep all over the skin.
#Step 3: Solve concerns with serum
Where moisturiser helps to hydrate and treat the superficial layers of the skin, serum will help to target the deeper layers while you sleep. Facial serums are a great way to address any specific skin concerns whether it be lack of hydration, loss of radiance or anti-ageing issues such as loss of density, lines and wrinkles.
NUXE have a wide range of serums that aim to tackle each of these issues. The Nuxellence Anti-Ageing Care is a fabulous all-rounder which has been specifically formulated to detoxify and repair the skin’s mitochondrial DNA at night when such processes are most active. Containing 10 patents, it recharges the skin with youth allowing you to wake up to completely refreshed, rejuvenated and radiant skin. For those in need of more targeted care of established lines and wrinkles, try the Nuxuriance Ultra Global Anti-Ageing Serum or the Merveillance Expert Anti-Wrinkle Serum. For pure hydration, try the Crème Fraiche de Beauté Moisturising Serum.
#Step 4: Apply a dedicated eye cream
A good night’s sleep in combination with a nourishing eye cream will prevent the appearance of dreaded under-eye bags. The skin under the eyes is incredibly thin and delicate, so everyone - regardless of their age should include a dedicated eye cream in their nighttime routine to wake up to a brighter eye-area.
Choosing the right eye cream for you will depend on your age and skin type. For anyone with general anti-ageing concerns, the Nuxellence Anti-Ageing Night Eye Care complements the night serum perfectly. With a youth-revealing formula containing passionflower and hyaluronic acid, and a decongesting massage applicator, it both soothe and illuminates the under eyes. For deeper bags and lines around the eyes, use the Merveillance Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream, or for more established ageing concerns such as loss of density and brown spots around the eye area opt for the Nuxuriance Ultra Anti-Ageing Eye and Lip Cream. Apply by running a smal amount to your ring finger and patting across the eye contour.
#Step 5: Max on moisture with your chosen moisturiser
Whilst the skin is recovering and repairing overnight it experiences a huge amount of water-loss making it super important to thoroughly moisturise the skin before bed. Choose a richer moisturiser or dedicated night cream with a more nourishing formula to give the skin adequate hydration to work with.
The NUXE Reve de Miel Nourishing Night Cream is an incredibly hydrating moisturiser which softens and soothes dry or sensitive skin. It uses honey and precious oils to replenish the skin’s lipids and supports the repairing processes that take place overnight.
For those with lines, wrinkles or broader anti-ageing concerns, try one of the dedicated night creams such as the Merveillance Anti-Wrinkle or Nuxuriance Ultra Anti-Ageing Night Creams. These help to hydrate and plump the skin to give a smoother and more youthful complexion.
