Honey bees are some of the most remarkable little creatures on the planet. Their magical act of pollination is vital for our survival, for helping plants and crops to thrive and in fact, it’s estimated that over a third of the food we consume globally is pollination-dependent.
Whilst bees buzz away in the hive, they also create some seriously precious bi-products. Not only delicious, the likes of honey as well as beeswax are incredibly beneficial for our health and particularly our skin. It’s these transformative ingredients that we celebrate in our Rêve de Miel® skincare range of lip balms and nourishing body care products, dedicated to comforting dry and sensitive skin. Discover their incredible qualities and why NUXE is working so hard to protect the future of bees.
Honey bees are under threat...
Although honey bees are vital to our survival and so powerful for our health and skin, their existence is facing severe risk. Disease, parasites, pesticides and habitat loss mean that honey bee colonies are disappearing at an alarming rate which would be catastrophic for the environment.
What NUXE are doing to help…
Here at NUXE, we’ve been taking steps to protect this threatened species, with two major conservation projects. For several years, we’ve worked with Un Toit pour les Abeilles (A home for bees) by sponsoring beehives in the Vosges region of France to help new colonies to prosper.
This year we also partnered with the Louvre Museum in Paris to sponsor the creation of a 1,250 M2 floral meadow within the beautiful Jardin Ragget. With six beehives, the project gives a habitat for pollen-gathering bees, buzzing through the alleyways of Domaine National du Louvre et des Tuileries.
Protecting the production of powerful honey...
By protecting the survival of bees, we’re able to continue to nourish ourselves and our skin with pollinated food, and glorious bee-made ingredients like honey. And honey bees’ other powerful creations…
But there are other magical treasures of the hive beyond honey which also have remarkable qualities for skin.
Beeswax is a key ingredient found within both our repairing Rêve de Miel® Ultra-nourising Lip Balm and Repairing Super Balm. It’s created by young bees and used to build their nests to store honey and pollen. Due to its composition of fatty acids and hydrocarbon compounds, it can form an impermeable film on the skin to protect it from further damage. This is why we choose this ingredient for our lip balm and super balm. These products are fantastic products for chapped lips and, dry skin
Propolis Oleoactive, used within our recently reformulated Ultra-nourishing Lip Balm is a rare and precious treasure produced by bees from plant resins. It’s an incredibly unique substance, used as strong mortar to construct, repair, strengthen and protect the hive from external aggressors. It is known to contain no fewer than 300 molecules including fatty acids, vitamins, polyphenols, minerals and more which give it its abilities to nourish and repair very dry and damaged lips.
