5 Summer Skincare Mistake

It’s no secret that our skin changes a lot during the summer months. Dryness and dehydration are replaced with sweat and shininess, whilst the sun presents further danger to the health of our skin. Whether you normally have your skincare routine down or not, between the barbecues, pub gardens and trips abroad it can be difficult to keep up with the changes in your complexion. If you’re finding your skin in a state of summer disarray, discover where you may be going wrong and our tips for putting things right.

Foregoing the SPF on cloudy days…
The joys of the Great British weather mean constant sunshine probably isn’t on the cards this summer, but that shouldn’t mean skipping on sun cream. Even on cloudy or rainy days, we’re closer to the sun making harmful UVA and UVB rays stronger than usual and our skin more vulnerable to sun damage. Take precaution by applying a high quality sun protection, especially on areas such as the face and neck which are most at risk of early ageing. The NUXE Sun Delicious Lotion SPF30 is the perfect one-stop-shop for both protecting and nourishing the skin. As well as offering broad spectrum sun protection, it contains water hyacinth and kau pe flower to keep the skin soothed and hydrated.

Using your makeup as SPF…
Many makeup products boast sun protecting properties, but the concentration of SPF is never enough to fight off the sun’s harmful rays. Whilst such makeup products can be a great sun protection ‘boost’ they should never be solely relied upon. Take no chances by applying a dedicated facial SPF to the skin and let it sink in before makeup application. The NUXE Sun Facial SPF 50 is perfect for giving powerful sun protection and also contains specific ingredients to fight photoageing. By protecting and repairing the skin cells, it gives more prevention against sun damage including wrinkles and brown spots later in life.

Skipping on moisturiser…
If the summer heat has left your skin a shiny, oily mess, the idea of adding further greasiness is probably off-putting. But, missing out on moisturiser is never a good idea.  Even if the skin is oily, it can still be dehydrated plus, avoiding moisturiser altogether can make the skin over-compensate with further oil production. Instead, switch up your moisturising cream to a more lightweight lotion or fluid-based formula. The NUXE Aquabella Beauty-Revealing Moisturising Emulsion is the perfect moisturiser for any oily-skin dilemma. Using white water lily and a natural blur complex, it beautifully hydrates the skin whilst mattifying those pesky shiny areas.

Not cleansing after a day at the beach…
A morning and evening cleansing routine are requisite, but many people don’t realise that a day spent on the beach or lazing in the sun requires a cleansing session of its own. The unpleasant combination of sweat, SPF, sand, salt water and chlorine can leave the skin feeling tight and irritated and need to be cleansed away, pronto. In the shower, use our NUXE Sun After Sun Shampoo for Face and Body which has been specifically formulated to remove UV filters. For the face, use a soothing cleanser which will remove impurities without drying the skin such as our Cleansing Milk with Rose Petals. Apply with a cotton pad before using our Gentle Toner with Rose Petals to refresh, rehydrate and remove any cleanser residue.

Forgetting your feet…
Whether they’re shoved into flip flops, dried out by chlorine or forced to walk on rocky beaches, our feet can be left seriously cracked and hard during summer. Don’t forget to show your trotters some love by giving them their own skincare once-over at the end of a long day. Remove dead skin with a thorough but nourishing exfoliating scrub such as the NUXE Reve de Miel body scrub with honey and shea butter before massaging in a nourishing oil - our best-selling dry oil, Huile Prodigieuse is perfect for softening and hydrating hard skin.
